Meeker Shingles Company Overview
When Townsend “Toke” Meeker founded his forest products firm in the 1940s, he hoped to produce the best quality Western Red Cedar shakes in the nation. Initially, he designed a new process for hand-splitting cedar shakes using mass production for cost control. He wanted to “Shake the Continent” and set out to develop the North American shake market. Still family-owned today, the Meeker company runs modern mills in the Pacific Northwest.
Meeker Shingles Warranty
Meeker’s Premium Select Heavy shakes carry a 50-year transferable warranty. Quality Mediums are warranted for 30 years. A 40-year warranty covers Premium Select Mediums and Quality Heavies. In addition, Meeker cedar shakes can be treated using Osmose brand CCA preservative or FTX brand fire retardant to add decades to cedar roofs’ life expectancy.
Meeker’s cedar shakes are manufactured to the highest standards, and carry certification from the three model building codes: Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), and the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI). Furthermore, Meeker cedar roof products are tested by the National Evaluation Service (NES) to ensure conformance to the Uniform Building Code (UBC).
Their 24″ shakes range from 1/2″ to 3/4″ thickness and are hand selected in grades from “quality” to “premium select” in medium and heavy weights. Meeker’s use of highest quality cedar results in shakes that “shakes lay flatter, last longer, and have a more tailored looking fit.” (official website)
